Star Wars: Battlefront Cuts It's Single Player - And This Is The Reason Why

By: Justin Marsh

Star Wars: Battlefront is is slowly but very surely shaping up to be one of the largest video games of the fall, and by EA none the less. But as these past few days, some fans have been upset that despite how good it may look, Battlefront will not come with a single-player based campaign. Rather, the entire game is either deathmatch, multiplayer or co-op in individualized missions.

Below is what EA’s Peter Moore recently spoke about the decision to Gamespot:

"You make a decision, years out, and you plan for what the world looks like when a game ships in two or three years. That’s about the intuitiveness about the executive producer, and his or her vision for the game."

"Between when a dev team starts work on a game, and when it finishes, the world becomes a different place. I remember when we started work on Star Wars: The Old Republic; at the time, the model to go for was subscription. By the time we had the game ready, the model to go for wasn’t subscriptions."

"…very few people actually play the single-player on these kinds of games. That’s what the data points to."

Personally us Nerds and hard core gamer's are pretty alright with EA's decision on this matter. Now of course you might that's idiotic. But if you think about it with a VERY open mind, you could quickly come to a conclusion that most people who brought Battlefront I & II only played single player no more then once or twice and then quickly went onto Gamespy's mutiplayer platform to go up against other live players. Other games such as The Force Unleashed, Shadows Of The Empire, and even Empire At War, had a great story driven experience to them of course, but I think the purpose of Battlefront is to create epic land and space battles using Star Wars ships and soldiers, and not so much of a heart pounding story plot within the EU, OT or PT.

Don't get me wrong, the campaign was loads of fun, but in today's world, gamer's love being able to compete against one another instead of fighting the AI itself. Even though AI killing is cool in your spare time, people don't tend to really do it much. What I think we could see that would actually please the fans more, would be to include AI alongside the live players during combat to make it a better gaming experience and maybe make it less of a hassle to join a server. I could see that being far more superior to campaign instead of playing one story over and over again, or basically sitting in a queue waiting for other players to join in on a match for you to be able to play a game in mutiplayer.

What do you guys think? Should campaign be included? Or should AI just be mashed into a live mutiplayer platform? Comment below or shoot us a comment on our Facebook page!

  1. I think single player campaign is crucial to this game. Yes I will buy it and play the heck out of it anyway but I always like having a story to go along with the game. To me gives it purpose to why I am in X battle on Y map doing Z objective. Multiplayer is awesome but story is way better.
